Flying from London City Airport can be convenient, but airport parking can quickly become expensive. If you are travelling for a short trip, a simple way to save money is to park near a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station and ride the train to the airport. One of the easiest places to do this is from Westferry DLR and park at West India Quay Car Park.

Why Airport Parking Can Be Expensive

Parking directly at London City Airport is convenient because the car park is only a few minutes from the terminal. However, it can be quite expensive, especially if you simply drive in and pay on the day. For two nights, you might pay well over £100 depending on availability and timing. Because the airport is well connected by the DLR, you do not actually need to park at the terminal itself. Parking a short distance away and using public transport can reduce the cost significantly.

Park at West India Quay Car Park

West India Quay Car Park is located on Hertsmere Road, Canary Wharf, close to the Westferry DLR station. It is a multi-storey car with 24-hour access and security features such as CCTV. There are regular promotions available too. Typical parking costs are around £20–£25 per day. For a two-night trip (about 48 hours), the total parking cost is usually around £45–£50, which is often cheaper than the airport’s on-site parking. Another advantage is that the car park is close to Westferry DLR, meaning the transfer to the airport is simple and quick.

Getting to London City Airport

Once you park your car, it’s only a couple of minutes’ walk from West India Quay car park to Westferry DLR and a direct service taking only 20 minutes from to City London Airport DLR. Dropping you right at the terminal.  Using contactless payment or an Oyster card, the train fare is typically between £2.00 and 3.00 for a single trip.

London City Airport is one of the easiest airports in London to reach by public transport. By parking at West India Quay Car Park and taking the DLR, travellers can save a considerable amount of money while still enjoying a quick and simple journey to the terminal.
