The Open House Festival is an annual celebration of London's architecture, neighbourhoods, the people and communities that make them. Every year, buildings and other sites across all 33 London boroughs open to the public, so that we can explore and learn about them for free. This year’s Open House runs between 13 -31 September 2025
Check out the Grade I listed, late Georgian sugar warehouse now housing the Museum of London Docklands. Sensitively restored, the multi-media displays coexist with the massive timber and brick structures of the original building. Glimpse inside the Crossrail Place Roof Garden—an elevated green oasis nestled above Canary Wharf’s Crossrail station. It features a striking Ethylene-Tetra-Fluoro-Ethylene (ETFE) roof, and a planting palette inspired by global maritime trade routes.
Or why not book a Wardian: tour with Howells Marsh Wall, E14 9TP. A guided tour of Wardian, two residential towers of 55 and 50 storeys. Wardian was inspired by the great explorer and innovator Dr Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward who was responsible for the creation of the Wardian Case, used to transport plants around the world at the height of the British Empire. The tour, led by Howells, concludes with a complimentary drink in the rooftop sky lounge.
Visit St Matthias Old Church - Community Centre, 113 Poplar High Street, E14 0AE. The oldest building in Docklands built in the Gothic and Classical styles, with original 17th Century stonework and fine mosaics. One of only three churches built during the Civil War, it was originally the East India Company Chapel.
Gorgeous Georgian 5 Montague Place, E14 0EX. Gorgeous Georgian is a full refurbishment and extension of a Grade II listed, five-storey Georgian residence in the All-Saints Church Conservation Area. The spectacular rear extension spans the lower ground and ground floor. Inside, the double-height space showcases a listed cast iron spiral staircase, ensuring a direct connection to the garden.
The Space Theatre, 269 Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs, E14 3RS. A Grade II listed converted church in the Isle of Dogs. Formerly a Scottish Presbyterian chapel (St. Pauls) the Space is now a theatre and arts centre dedicated to new writing, emerging companies and artist development. Hosting all arts from classical recitals through to wrestling.
